SM2010: Guard Skill: Double-Tap

A lot of fun shit happened this week, without wasting too many letters:

Group C and D – 8/22 – Nothing stops Mihoko “The Captain” Fukuji (Saki) from winning a match. Nothing. D side was rather mixed, but Hiro from Hidamari Sketch edges out the winner.

Group C and D – 8/23 In a somewhat surprise turn, Saki‘s Hajime Kunihiro beats out both Sohara Mitsuki (Sora No Otoshimono) and more importantly, Mion Sonozaki (When They Cry) who had steam in previous years. Goes to show you some shows simply don’t last the test of time. On the flip side, the busty Otome Tsuzuki (Mayoi Neko Overrun!) was unable to catch up to an old series favorite, Aruru (Utawarerumono). I’d also expect Eruru to place this year, although she really only lasted as long as she did last year due to an uncommon tie.

Group C and D – 8/24 Completing a third-day-in-a-row Saki sweep and sixth for the group block, Nodoka “Titty Monster” Haramura sweeps Akari Sakura (Jewelpet) under the rug, with Yamada (B Geta H Kei) and Yaya Yuiki (Shugo Chara!) far behind. It’s worth noting that this is Yaya’s third tournement appearance, and even though she makes it to the main round, she has never gotten past the first round. The only characters to break R1 are Rima, Utau, and Amu, with Amu being the only one to get to at least the group finals, losing to Koromo Amae (Saki) last year. With only 21 votes, it’s hard to go up against Super Tits.

The end of Groups C and D set up for some pretty serious battles for Round Two. Six Saki girls made it, but only four can possibly advance, and they’ll face stiff competition from the likes of Kyou Fujibayashi (Clannad), Mii Konori and Kuroko Shirai (Toaru Kagaku no Railgun), Nodoka Manabe (K-ON!!) and Mizuki Himeji (Baka To Test To Shoukanjuu). It’ll be a tight race for sure.

On to groups E and F…

Group E and F – 8/25 Speaking of Shugo Chara! Utau Hoshina steps up, but falls right back down as Yuki Nagato (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) hacks her way to the top, shortchanging the singer of another year to shine. On the F side, Baka To Test To Shoukanjuu continues to do well with Hazuki Shimada edging out Mako Someya (Saki) to deny the series another R1 victory.

Group E and F – 8/26 In what was a hotly contested match both on 2ch and 4chan, Angel Beats! frontrunner Kanade “Tenshi” Tachibana squared off against Index (Toaru Kagaku no Railgun) who only appeared in the spin-off series for several seconds but rides off her own series fame. Between the two, they grossed 1,182 votes, a certain high for a R1 match. In the end, Kanade took the win with 646 votes, the highest in the first round. F side was no slouch either, where yet another Angel Beats! member of the SSS, Yui, faced off against Mahiru “Dog” Inami (Working!) in a match that also pulled 1,164 votes total for the two and put Yui below Kanade and Inami below Yui in the most votes for Round One. With Yui’s win, Angel Beats! is sure to show well this year.

Group E and F – 8/27 Even with all of the extra screen time this season, Jun Suzuki (K-ON!!) didn’t have the steam to beat Lisa (The Sacred Blacksmith). In a further surprise on Side F, Evangeline A K McDowell (Negima) scored a first for the series beating Kaede Sakura (Kampfer) whom apparently didn’t place as well as I thought, probably because they twisted her from the nice girl into the lesbian bitch.

Group E and F – 8/28 Finally for the end of the week, in a mostly deadpan match, Asami Iwasawa (Angel Beats!) tacks another win for the series, where Rima Mashiro (Shugo Chara!) puts the brakes on another Saki character, Satomi “Wahaha” Kanbara and wins another R1 match.

Next Week: Ritsu, Saki, Chise, Senjougahara, Haruhi, and maybe this year will be Hinagiku’s year. Protip: It won’t
