SM2010: This is the Year of Our Saki Tent

Group C and D saw little action compared to the heavy-hitting A and B, but with one character assassination and a couple key upsets things about bound to get… er… well probably not much more different than now.

Group C and D – 8/16 In C, it was safe to assume it was going to be a face-off between Yuuki “Tacos” Kataoka (Saki) versus Ayumu “Hamster” Nishizawa (Hayate the Combat Butler) and it was indeed, but Hamster could not muster enough steam to take over the Taco Supreme, losing by 47 notes. In D, the race was much tighter, mainly between Misaki Ayuzawa (Kaichou Wa Maid-sama!) and Kurimu Sakurano (Seitokai No Ichizon) with “Tiny” emerging the winner by a short 15 votes.

Group C and D – 8/17 Eyes were on newcomer Mizuki Himeji (Baka To Test To Shoukanjuu) to beat out Saki contender Yumi Kajiki, Holo (Spice & Wolf), and Yusa (Angel Beats!). She did away with all three by a wide margin. In D, the race was also evenly divided between Sawako Yamanaka (K-ON!!), Alice (Pandora Hearts), Mimina Ousawa (Ladies x Butlers), and Saki Amano (Kanamemo). Team K-ON!! didn’t have enough steam to beat out Saki, sending her into the next round to face Tiny and ~de arimasu.

Group C and D – 8/18 Angol Moa (Sgt. Frog) is no newbie, being her 7th year in the tournament, but in seven years she has only ever managed to go as high as the 2nd round in 2005. Sadly for her, she was up against the glasses-wielding responsible one of the K-ON!! force, Nodoka Manabe, and not even A CHALLENGER APPEARS in the form of Yoshinoya (Hidamari Sketch) could topple her from taking the win. Flip-side, in a surprising slight turn, the Manipulator of Objects, Wilhelmina Carmel (Shakugan no Shana) managed to out-manipulate the votes in this match to beat Isuzu Tsumuhana (Ookamikakushi), Kiri Komori (So Long, Mr. Despair), and send Enjutsu Kouro (Koihime Musou) into another time zone.

Group C and D – 8/19 The force is strong with Team Hayate this year as Maria and Sakuya Aizawa go head to head for C, with the maid beating the joker to come out on top yet again this year. D-side was a good fight between Koromo Amae (Saki) a crowd favorite from last year, against newcomer Nozomi Kiriya (Mayoi Neko Overrun). I was hoping for the Nozomi win, the with a 48 vote margin, Koromo strikes again.

Group C and D – 8/20 In what some call the first character assassination attempt of the season, Hisa Takei (Saki) beat Flower-Girl-B Kazari Uiharu (Toaru to Kagaku no Railgun) by one vote. One. At one point in the graph, it seemed certain Uiharu would win, but somewhere from behind came the Saki Legion determined not to let a pair of Railgun wins this round. No doubt this sort of butthurt will continue into the next rounds. Railgun favorite Kuroko Shirai however, avenges the fallen to sweep D-side over Saki Kijima (Hayate the Combat Butler) and “Nyoro~n” Tsuruya (The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya).

Group C and D – 8/21 Showing that Judgement doesn’t let their fallen go down without a fight, “The Legendary Badass” Mii Konori lays waste to Teru Miyanaga (Saki) and Sheryl Nome (Macross Frontier) for a win. D-side isn’t much of a fight for returning heavy Kyou Fujibayahi (Clannad) as she takes the cake from her side with ease.

Three more matches in C and D this week, with names like Mihoko “The Captain” Fukuji (Saki), Nodoka “Titty Monster” Haramura (Saki), Mion Sonozaki (When They Cry) and many more. Groups E and F start immediately after on 8/25 (Tuesday 8/24 for the US) with Yuki Nagato (The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya) going up against Korone (Ichiban Ushiro No Daimaou), and on the flip-side, Hazuki Shimada (Baka To Test To Shoukanjuu) going up against Mako Someya (Saki) and a pair from Katanagatari. Almost halfway done with Round One, plenty to go. My Google site is updated daily as is Twitter, so if you care, you know where.
